Clever Children of today.....

Sometimes I don't seem to understand my Lil' guy,
After showering him with loads of toys,
And cars and balls of various sizes,
He is more interested in playing with the vacuum cleaner, the washing machine and watches how the blender grinds and mixes.

He is not even two, trying to do things himself,
Like help with the laundry and keep his toys and books back on their shelf.
He plays with the phone, its a funny sight,
It looks like he's chatting or browsing a website.

And then I realise the children of today ARE and will be so different from us,
the children of yesterday.

They know that tablet is a phone and also a pill, Apple and BlackBerry are not just phones but also fruits,
And that no fairy is going to leave money under their pillow for their broken tooth.
They are very tech savvy, the internet browse and with it the world discover,
Children younger than age 8 are already on Facebook and even on Twitter.

They know Santa Clause doesn't exist and does not put presents under the tree,
It's mom and dad, they know it all so soon, unfortunately.

I think of the good ole' days,
Where we as children in our school or gardens played,
Games like 'kho kho' and 'Chor Police'
Or 'Atti Patti' and 'Hide and seek'.
And we would go cycling or for picnics with friends,
But now playing video games on TV or IPads is the new trend.

Maybe children of today are smarter than their age,
With competition and technology as the new adage.
I've still got a lot to learn, understand and realise,
Very soon my toddler will grow into a big handsome guy.

Till then let him play with the blender and vacuum cleaner,
I'm sure he won't want to touch them as soon as he gets older.

I end with the 'Don' dialogue rendition of mine for all parents out there
"Aaj kal ke bachein Ko samajhna, mushkil hi nahi, naa mumkein hain"
