My Christmas Day

When I woke up on Christmas morn,
I felt a bit sad and forlorn,
Thought about family in Mumbai far away,
Felt celebrations without them wouldn't feel like Christmas day.

We then dressed for the Christmas mass at ten,
Started feeling a bit happy again.
Mikhail and Nigel in their waistcoat and suit looked so handsome and dapper,
Me dressed up in a maroon Salwar Kameez - typical Indian attire.
The church was packed and bursting at the seams,
With crowds of all nationalities, many outside leaning against the church's beams.

After mass we proceeded to the J W Marriott for our Christmas Brunch
Indeed it was a scrumptious lunch,
With roast turkey, stuffed pig, steak, sushi, dimsums,
Roast pork with apple sauce and Peking duck with a sauce from plum,
Christmas puddings, cheesecakes, yulelogs, candied almonds and hazelnuts,
Apple pies, chocolate truffles and cakes of guava and walnut.
There was a lovely live band playing
Christmas carols and old English songs,
They made it more enjoyable with their karaoke sing a-longs.

A Christmas nap followed the heavy brunch,
We were stuffed as we had too much to munch,
Needed to rest as we were a tad bit tired,
For the evening needed to get fresh and wired.
Had to distribute to the neighbours sweets
And also made plans with old friends to meet.

Met our old friends a Goan-Gujju couple,
Who made our Christmas fun and more enjoyable.
We all went for dinner to a lil Goan joint called 'Viva Goa'
Which felt like a quaint pretty shack on the beaches of Anjuna and Baga.
We enjoyed Xacuti, sorpotel, croquets, beef chilly -the yummy Goan food,
even ordinary bread pav tasted so good.
Kyle and Mikhail were busy with their milk and popcorn,
Whilst Goan singers at Viva Goa entertained us with Christmas carols and Konkani songs.

It was a perfect end to my Christmas day,
Though we had celebrated Christmas without family in Dubai far away.
I then realised that you've got to learn to be happy no matter where you are,
Especially people like us, migrated to other countries away from family, from India afar.
